In essence, the goal of the interior process of Spiritual Direction + Formation is to become as the Prophet Elijah. Become still, listen, and feast on what is brought to you by the ravens of the LORD.
Stillness and Listening - the FOCUS of TURNING WITHIN
Most of the features on the map of Spiritual Direction + Spiritual Formation are features that help us to gain a sense of PAUSE and LISTENING. I hold the icon of the Prophet Elijah as my hope for Direction + Formation. Elijah is seated in front of the Cave at the Kerith Ravine. He has tried to find the LORD in the earthquake, the storm, and the mighty wind, but he was unable. Instead, he heard the LORD in the STILL SMALL VOICE within. As he tended to this process of listening, the LORD fed him via the food that the ravens brought to him.
