As a result of the cancellation of my retreat "Turning Within" http://www.poconoplateau.org/new/events/documents/TurningWithinFlyer2009.pdf I have realized a need for discussion around the topics that were to be presented at the retreat.
This Blog will be devoted to the discussion of the interior process of spirituality. We will look at things from an esoteric christian tradition, as well as exoteric, and map out the landscape of what we currently name "Spiritual Direction + Spiritual Formation".
The nature of the discussion will reflect the definition for the retreat: The terms Spiritual Direction and Spiritual Formation are used frequently in today’s Christian community and milieu. What exactly do they mean and how do they fit into the work we do as clergy and laity in bringing about growth and development to our parishes, small groups and individual faithful? We will probe into the meaning of these two pathways and determine what they are made of and explore the specific details of the practices they embrace. We will discuss interior prayer,
meditation, stillness, watchfulness, discrimination, visualization, centering prayer, liturgy of the hours, lectio divina, mind mapping, solitude, labyrinths, journaling, dreams, and the Jesus Prayer. This retreat is designed to practice these methods, not just discuss. Take the time to get away and look at the pathways to the heart, what the Fathers called: “The Royal Road” and how it is a critical model for today’s Church leadership.
